Very sad I just heard about Sir Bernard Lovell in the news.

He spoke with great enthusiasm not just about radio astronomy, with which he contributed an enormous amount but also with science in general. That inquisitive nature, pioneering thought and spirit means he has inspired many others and has a legacy that will last way beyond today.

I just saw that on the news - deep regrets for his family and colleagues.
Not many have made as big of impression in their field as he did. He'll have a long lasting and profound place in scientific history.

Sad news as others have commented.

I would refer those who have not listened to them to a pair of excellent 2007 Jodcasts in which Sir Bernard talked about the building of the Lovell telescope, the history of radio astronomy, his views on life and much else. He was a really interesting person to listen to - it is hard to believe he was 93 years old when he did these interviews.

    Hello,

that is a loss for his familly and friends, and maybe for all of us who are interested in astronomy and science in general.

It's a strange coincidence that I bought two of his books last wednesday.

    Regards
