    ok, forgive my post and i hope it doesn't seem like a dumb question (but we all know there is no such thing as a dumb question :-)) but.........

    my understanding of einstiens general relativity is that space and time are dimensions and that the speed of time is the speed of light? this is affected by garavity near high mass objects and time slows down...

    soooo if i was to go far out in the universe away from any galaxys would time go faster for me than it would on earth as i am far away from any form of gravity....

    I watched a program by the guy from D-ream about what Time was...I like the way he said we travel thru life @ the speed of light.
    It gave me the impression that we gain a certian mass and at the end this decays back to the earth...

    I thought time would slow if you move away from gravity?

    Is it possible to escape gravitational force?
    Do we create our own gravity?

    Hi Dannyliverpool, good question mate, try to think of space and time as the same thing, you can’t have one with out the other e.g. spacetime rather then space and time. So in general relativity acceleration and gravity distorts space time like compressing or starching it.

    Now the difficult bit, it all depends on your frame of reference.
    For you stuck far away from any galaxies, you would not know any difference.
    For someone on earth looking at you (a different reference point) would see your time moving (a little bit) faster, because your space-time is less distorted then it is on earth. So you are right your time would move faster then for some on earth, but would depend were you were looking from e.g. your reference point.

    BUT if you was travailing faster then someone on earth, then special relativity comes into play, and your time would slow down (for someone looking ay you from earth).
    For you it would seem that distance you travelled was shorter.

    1) No you cant escape gravitational forces they go on for ever
    2) yes you do create you own gravity, as long as you have mass and/or energy.

    Remember though, we are pretty good at explaining the effects of gravity, but what it is, we haven’t a clue, e.g. why should mass or energy create it?

    I said no, I believe this is right for Newton & general relativity
    BUT…. Not so sure if you take dark energy into account
    Anyone got any ideas ?

    Time slows in a high gravity field. So time should speed up to it's maximum rate in the absence of significant gravity. It's not much faster than what we have on Earth.

    I suppose if you fall down a black hole (and by magic survive), time comes to a stop for you. The Universe moves forward - the black hole evaporates, and you find yourself at the end of the Universe.

    One of the interesting questions is "Is there anything more extreme than a black hole?". The answer seems to be that black holes have no limits on their mass. So they can be arbitrarily extreme. But answers to such questions always seem to come with the caveat "never say never"...
