October 2008 Extra
  1.
This is for the live show. The show notes will be updated shortly. Note that the audio quality is a bit variable for various reasons (we had 7 microphones!) but hopefully you'll be able to forgive us.

@jodatheoak, your picture is the cover art!

I've listened to this episode a couple of times already so I could proof-listen and it has brought a smile to my face every time!

Ian Morison writes in his Highlights of the Month:
" Happily, this year, the Moon is just two days before full moon and so its light will not intrude! "

The Moon interferes to its greatest extent when near Full Moon.

What Ian should have written was:
" Happily, this year, the Moon is just two days before NEW moon and so its light will not intrude!"

I'm really bummed I couldn't make it to the live taping - it sounded like you guys had a _GREAT_TIME_!!!
    Congrats on another good episode!

Earth Unit - we should start a pool on how many hours the LHC will be up in a month: I'll go with 12 for January 2010 =-) That little birdie that keeps flying back from the future and spoiling their fun is getting sneakier!!!

Stella, actually Ian didn't write that so don't blame him. I wrote it rather late at night after a very busy week or two. Blame me. :-)

Nick, I have the editing for that to look forward to.

As mentioned in the December show, the Geminids are coming soon. The Moon will be nearly New during the peak of the shower so will not cause any problems for visual observers. The peak is predicted to occur on December 14th at 5:10am (GMT) and this year we could see rates of up to 120 meteors per hour at maximum.

As for the Perseids back in August, there will be another #MeteorWatch event on Twitter. The idea is to post pictures and comments about what you see and join in with other observers around the planet. Adrian West of Newbury Astronomical Society has put together a trailer for the event which you can see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSOUS2brk90

I was wondering why I recognised one of the voices, I used to work with Lisa Hartley, what a small world...
